J's Chimes: Travel To Japan

Air Asia finally have flights to Japan starting from December 2010 onwards to Haneda Airport. What's amazing is the price of RM99~ which is approximately SGD$42~ for a one-way trip. I've always wanted to go to Japan, however the air fare always seems to be one of the costliest among all besides accommodation. But the fact that ya can only get there from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia only... However, I still got reviews from friends stating that it is wiser to take a better economy class flight like SIA to Japan instead because the trip is very long and would not be feasible on a budgeted airline. Anyway you can find out more about the flight here at AirAsia.com.Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

J's Chimes: Railway Maze

The fact that Japan requires such an extensive railway network is because of the sheer size of the country. Of course if ya really do not do your homework, traveling is really a confusing thing as you do not know what railway services to board and so on to reach your destination... Speaking of Japan, Singapore's railway system will soon be just as extensive as this as shown below...

What really amazes me is that though Singapore is really a small island, such an extensive railway network is being setup to facilitate movement of the people from one place to another. Some of which aren't seen or being contructed as of yet as they are on the planning phase for the future ahead. But somehow or rather, it seems that almost the whole island is connected together with the Central Business District as the Main Interchange Area. Looking forward to more of such improvements in transport so that we can travel for one end to another with ease...Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

J's Chimes: So You Wanna Go To Japan...

Wanted to go Japan for a very long time... However, due to the fact that it is an expensive place to be in, still don't have that much of a money to go there anytime soon. Planning is mostly necessary if you'd want to get the most out of your trip and especially so when you are going there on a budget. Came across a simple traveling guide that could probably help in travels to Japan. Check it out here so that you'd get a picture of why Japan isn't as cheap as you thought it might be... unless you plan ahead...Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

Day 6 In The Army: Anime Touch To ANA Airlines

The All Nippon Airways promotes their Airlines with a seemingly anime touch and feel to it to attract anime fans like me to fly Japan by ANA. Dunno what the heck's with the fairy tale kinda thing with Mozart and Princesses like characters but somehow it's kinda cool. One of the many reasons why anime captures the hearts of people with its creativity and unique way of presenting things to their audiences... Wished I'd go Japan one of these days...Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

J's Chimes: Off To Vietnam

In 10 days time, I will be flying to Vietnam for a little trip. J's Chimes will still continue to update itself as I've already schedule the posts ahead of time. But seriously being away for a week makes me a little nervous as I'd miss plenty of animes and updates of stuff I'd always search for every single day... Lots of things to catch up after I come back. Hope the trip is worth it...Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

Yup. J's Chimes taking a break and off to Malaysia for 5 days starting Thursday. Would already be there by the time you read this. (Because the time zone for blogger is off by 12 hrs as it reads 1900hrs as Singapore time 7am the next day) Anyhow, J's Chimes will still be updating even though I'm at another place as the auto scheduling mode will update accordingly while am away. I will still be updating regardless so please stay tune...Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

    Planning our Ireland trip

You wouldn't think a librarian would make such a mistake, but for our 2005 trip in Germany-Austria river cruise, and our 2006 trip to Finland and Russia, I devalued of my travel dollar by not reading! Yes, I virtually ignored the material our tour planners sent us (never did like assigned reading), read only a few things on the internet, and didn't even take a Russian-English dictionary with me (I did read up a little on Finnish architecture, thank goodness, because we did a lot of site tours). That was true stupidity. You might think a dictionary wouldn't be that tough to pick up in a foreign country, but think again. When your tour van is stuck in St. Petersburg traffic where the Russians in huge black SUVs drive like maniacs on drugs, it is not the time to hop out and run into a bookstore!

So I was pleased to see the first book on the bibliography sent to us by the University of Illinois Alumni Tours was How the Irish Saved Civilization. Excellent book. I've already read it and it totally changed my views of not only European history and the so-called "dark ages," but church history. And this week I checked out the Jan/Feb. 2007 issue of Everton's Genealogy without even glancing at the cover, because it always is jammed with interesting material, particularly carefully explained websites (they do a much better job than most librarians). Super, super article on "The Conquest of Ireland," by Charles D. FitzGerald. How anyone traces his ancestry back to the 1100s I have no idea--I feel fortunate to at least make it back to the ships that brought my families, both the German-Swiss and the Scots-Irish to our eastern ports. Anyway, this guy traces his family to Gerald de Barri who wrote Expugnatio Hibernica (The Conquest of Ireland), so using that source and The Song of Dermot and the Earl (a poem, authorship unknown) he puts together a fascinating tale of how Henry II of England took over Ireland in 1170. (Gerald sounds a lot like some bloggers--seemed to record just about everything.) Now I have many interesting avenues to pursue, as I make up for some lost time and regrets on earlier travel adventures.Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel

3379 Is Ireland in our future?

I know it's in our past--I've been doing genealogy this week.

After meeting with his Cursillo group, my husband poked his head in my office and said, "How would you like to go to Ireland?" "Who's going?" I asked. "The priest at Jim's parish takes tour groups, and this would be the week of our anniversary," he said. "Well, why don't I look it up at the Alumni Association site and see if they are offering anything," I suggested. "I really like their format."

When the mail came today, guess what dropped through the slot? A brochure. University of Illinois Alumni Association sponsored tour to Ireland, 12 days covering both my birthday and our anniversary. And I hadn't even looked it up.

    Seems like a sign, don't you think?Source URL: https://maryelizabeth-winstead.blogspot.com/search/label/Travel
